Allowed in new tenancy?

No, not allowed. There are some alterations that we don't allow at the start of your tenancy. Once you have completed your starter tenancy you will be able to apply for permission for the alteration.

Allowed in a new build?

No, not allowed for the first 12 months. In new homes the builder is responsible for fixing any problems that occur in the first 12 months after you've moved in. There are some alterations that we can't allow during this period because it would invalidate this arrangement and the builder would no longer be responsible for any repairs. After 12 months you will be able to apply for permission for the alteration.

Always permitted

There are some alterations that you're permitted to carry out without asking for permission from us. The work should be carried out by an experienced person using good quality materials but you don't need to tell us about it before you start. You may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) from your Council to help with the cost of this work.

Please note

We may also be able to help you with installing hand rails and grab rails. Please contact us if you would like more information.
