Westwood Social Club officially opens new accessible facilities

On 18 December 2023, Westwood Social Club officially opened new fully accessible toilet facilities. Funding from Selwood Housing’s Stronger Communities Fund and Bradford-on-Avon Area Board made it possible for the club to transform the old storeroom into a modern, accessible toilet facility.

The club is located in the heart of the Westwood community near Bradford-on-Avon. Members of the local community run the club which has around 250 members. The club boasts a licensed bar, snooker room, main hall with stage, skittle alley and well-equipped kitchen. The much-needed addition of these facilities has made the club more accessible for so many people.

Chair of the club, Julie, said:

Thank you to Selwood Housing, we very much appreciate their contribution and support. The funding has really made an impact and a difference to our community with the installation of this amazing facility.

Delighted to see the new accessible facilities, Ann Windo (pictured) accepted the honour of cutting the ribbon in recognition of her family’s long-established input in the club. Ann’s family were instrumental in starting the club 104 years ago, and her father-in-law built a major part of the club many years ago.

I was delighted to open the new accessible toilet at Westwood Social Club, as it will now allow access to more villagers and visitors. My father-in-law, David Windo (who built the main toilet block, down steps, more than 50 years ago) is now in a wheelchair, so he can once again use the club.
