Trowbridge pop-up youth café a success

Wiltshire Youth for Christ is a local organisation that primarily supports young people in West Wiltshire. During the summer school holidays, they held a week-long pop-up youth cafe at Stallard Recreation Ground in Trowbridge, and the event was declared a big success. Selwood Housing was pleased to support the event through our Stronger Communities Fund.

The event brought young people together and offered a range of activities that helped them learn new skills, improve existing ones, and build confidence and independence for their future. Throughout the week, Wiltshire Youth for Christ was joined by the Wiltshire Outdoor Learning team, with activities including a climbing wall, football, and badminton. There were also iPads and game consoles located in a specially-designed van where the team could connect with young people, inspire them, and equip them for the future. There was something for everyone throughout the week, and the event created an ideal school holiday activity for the 185 under 18s who attended.

Wiltshire Youth for Christ Director, Fergus Stewart, said:

It was a privilege for us to put on such a well-received provision in the middle of the school holidays, and we are immensely grateful to Selwood Housing and other sponsors for enabling this to happen. We had great support from the local policing team and also from town council staff and local churches. We were able to deploy at least three trained youth workers for each session. Feedback from young people and parents was really positive; one mum told us that this was a highlight for her family and a great way to bring the community together.
