The arrival of Coronavirus in the UK and the move to a National Lockdown in March 2020, placed severe strain on our local communities and supporting agencies. In a climate of diminishing food supplies and donations, many local food banks experienced big spikes in demand.
In recognition of the fact that food banks were huge sources of support for some of the most deprived communities and many of our own customers, Selwood Housing decided to donate £1,000 from our Stronger Communities Fund to our local foodbanks in Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, Bradford-on-Avon, Melksham and £500 to those in Salisbury and Frome.
Selwood Housing was able to act quickly in response to the identified food shortages and make sure that our communities had the support they needed at such a critical time.
This was alongside making over 10,000 welfare calls to our most vulnerable customers and signposting them to the Wiltshire Coronavirus Hub and other local sources of support.
We continue to act as an enabling organisation supporting agencies to deliver services to communities in areas of deprivation where we hold housing stock.
