Skydivers raise thousands for charity

Four brave Selwood Housing colleagues have undertaken a dramatic sky dive from fifteen thousand feet to support We Hear You Cancer Counselling.

Staff at Selwood Housing choose a different charity to support each year, raising money through a variety of activities from bake sales to pub quizzes. Frome based charity We Hear You (WHY) was selected for the vital work they do providing free therapeutic support to children, families and individuals affected by cancer and other life-threatening conditions.

Frances Geary, Kasia Glossop, Laurie Owen and Sarah Johnson all jumped at the chance to do something a bit different and had been planning their adventure at Go Skydive in Old Sarum Park in Salisbury since last September. Following several postponements due to poor weather they finally made it up in the air on Friday 8 April.

Neighbourhood manager Sarah Johnson said:

“It was worth the wait in the end. I felt a bit sick afterwards, but the freefall was amazing!”

Lettings supervisor Laurie Owen explained:

“Everyone is affected by cancer in one way or another, so we’re really pleased to be able to support such a great cause.”

Planning team leader Kasia Glossop revealed:

“I was quite nervous as I’d never done this before, but now I want to do it again!”

Head of new business and home ownership Frances Geary added:

“A huge thank you to everybody who has sponsored us.”

The team has raised over two thousand pounds for We Hear You. If you can help to support them please go to www.justgiving.com/fundraising/selwood-skydive.
