A key meter lets you take control of your energy costs, by offering a pay-as-you-go service for gas and electricity.
Please note, if you are leaving your home for several days, ensure to charge your key or card, and to credit your meter. This will prevent any electrical appliances such as your freezer from turning off.
If you find that your electricity or hot water has stopped working, it may mean your pre-payment meter has ran out of credit. Read how to add credit below:
Step 1: take your energy card or key to a Payzone, PayPoint or Post Office and add credit. Depending on where you live, you can credit any amount from £1 to £49 at a time.
Step 2: put your newly charged card or key into your pre-payment meter.
Step 3: your meter will be able to confirm how much money you have credited, as well as how much energy you have used and what your current meter reading is. Be sure to keep an eye on your credit amount to prevent it from running out.
If you have been issued with a new key or card, you will need to activate it before you can add credit. To activate your card, simply put it into the meter for one minute.
