Fencing and boundary management policy review

Eight customers took part in a focus group to provide their valuable feedback and recommendations for our fencing and boundary management policy.

To complete the review, all customers who receive the monthly Make a Difference newsletter were invited to complete a short survey to ensure we had a wider representation of customer views.

 

What happened next?

Based on your feedback, we will be exploring alternative fencing options, as detailed below.

 

You said We did
The current chain link fencing gave a poor impression of our neighbourhoods and was a concern for security and privacy. Given this feedback, we will explore alternative fencing options that offer better security and privacy while maintaining durability to better meet customer expectations.
You provided several suggestions for improving the look of chain-link, such as using green coated wire, painted posts, screening or planting to cover up the wire & posts. While these ideas have potential, we won’t be implementing them immediately.  Instead, we will be exploring composite fencing as an alternative to better meet customer expectations for security, privacy, and durability.
You felt that in some circumstances Selwood Housing should provide more secure fencing, i.e. sheltered housing, properties where gardens border public spaces or properties where customers are extremely vulnerable. When we update our policy, we will take into consideration the need for different types of fencing in situations where vulnerability or security is a concern, ensuring that the fencing installed meets the specific needs of our customers.
Would Selwood put up better fencing if the customer paid the difference in materials & labour? We typically don’t offer the option for customers to pay the difference for better quality fencing.
The appearance, security, durability, and privacy of composite fencing received an average score of 4.75 out of 5 in each category. This strong customer satisfaction indicates that composite fencing better aligns with your expectations compared to chain link fencing. When a suitable property becomes void, we will fit composite fencing to assess how the costs & time of both material & labour work out in comparison to chain-link and to our estimates.  We plan to do this in September and report on our findings and future plans in October.
