Working with us
What it’s like to work here
Working with us
Why work with us?
There are lots of great reasons to join the team – our 35-year history and strong values, solid financial resources, Investors in People Gold accreditation, recent IT investment, flexible working opportunities, we’re dynamic, growing and investing in transformational change. Most importantly, knowing that you’re making a great difference to others in our local community, who without our support may otherwise be homeless.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
Having an inclusive workplace and valuing people’s differences is very important to us. It creates a positive working atmosphere, helps us achieve more, make informed decisions and also better understand the customers we support. A diversity group meets regularly to discuss issues, inform our approaches and create ideas on how we can continue to raise awareness.
We are a disability-confident employer and guarantee an interview to any disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the job.
Please let us know if you need any adjustments made to attend an interview, and we’ll support you.

One team
As ‘one team’ we consider others, working together to achieve a common goal.

Flexible working
Flexible working isn’t just an occasional benefit here, it’s a way of working.
Employees can build flexibility into their working week, to encourage a good work-life balance. We just encourage good communication within teams to ensure work is still delivered and customers still receive a great service.
The technology we use supports us to be able to work from most locations, with a good internet connection! Find out more about all of our employee benefits here.
Your views matter
We encourage all our colleagues to be open and share their views, suggestions and experiences of working at Selwood Housing. We have a range of channels to support this, including:
- employee forums
- weekly updates from our chief executive
- monthly employee briefings
- monthly ‘pulse’ surveys
- Investors in People questionnaires

Selwood Housing proudly signed the Armed Forces Covenant, pledging a firm commitment to service personnel, veterans, and their families in its communities and homes across Wiltshire, Bath & North East Somerset, and Mendip.
We’re also committed to recognising and supporting carers and we know it’s vital that the social housing sector shares this commitment, which is why we signed up to Harry’s Pledge.

Activities and events
We recognise that it’s important to have some balance – and we’re a fairly lively, creative, socially-minded (and quite competitive!) bunch.
The Selwood Spirit team put on regular social events and activities to raise money for our charity of the year. These include quizzes, raffles, cake sales and a family barbecue in the summer as well as a Christmas event for staff and a Christmas party for children.
We have a ‘Selwood social’ Teams channel where employees can share their interests, hobbies, fundraising activities and photos.
We also come together once a year as a whole group, for our staff event, which includes our annual Living the Values Awards, as voted for by colleagues.
