Garden makeover at The Cabin

Trowbridge Users Group crop

The Cabin is located on Seymour road in Trowbridge. It hosts the area's community fridge, and events run by Trowbridge Future and the Trowbridge Service Users Group. On seeing the green space available there, which was bare and uninviting, Trowbridge Service Users Group decided to make a few changes. The group's main aim is to provide a safe and friendly space for those with mental ill health. They also create a space for social interaction without judgement.

As a part of this mission, volunteers worked together on the outdoor space, bringing it to life with the help of Selwood Housing's Stronger Communities Fund. They have added extra features including a vegetable garden, providing a bountiful harvest to contribute to the community fridge, and a water feature that has introduced sound into the garden space, creating an environment where members can sit and relax.

It took the Trowbridge Service Users Group a lot of hard work to transform the area, and throughout the summer the members took full advantage and enjoyed watching the garden bloom. You can watch their video here.

Some of the highlights of their garden project were:

  • Beautifying the external space
  • Growing herbs which have been used in art projects such as 'making lavender wands'
  • Making concrete art for the garden
  • Creating a tranquil space to sit and enjoy
  • Planting bulbs ready for spring
